I just wanted to update on the pregnancy situation. My betas doubled again. I go in tomorrow for an ultrasound. Not sure what I should expect to find at five weeks. Probably not much. Still feel tired and sick. | | Wednesday, July 1st, 2009 | | 1:30 pm |
My due date was today. Instead of being in labor, I'm hiding upstairs with the kids while the carpet cleaners steam my carpets. | | Friday, May 1st, 2009 | | 12:51 pm |
Just found out that since our WHOLE district didn't close due to Swine Flu (just three schools), we DON'T have to make this day up! HOORAY! I also heard that our school closings were a complete over-reaction, but they are erring on the side of caution. I'm not quite understanding how the symptoms of swine flu are different than the regular flu, so I don't know why or how they made the call (test results are still pending), but I got a ton done today. I was supposed to meet a friend for coffee (the one that had twins six weeks ago), but she's scared I'm going to give her the Swine Flu, so that's out. Finished my paper that my professor had a problem with. I still don't know what he wants, but it's done, and that's that. I've gotten B plusses and A minuses on everything else, so even if I don't do well, I'll still pass. Signed up for summer classes which start immediately after the end of my spring courses. These look more manageable, although more of theory, theory, theory. They aren't simultaneous; one meets after the other one ends, so that's good. Then, fall semster and spring semester and I'm done. Maxwell and Riley have been dream kids today. I know it won't last, but WHOO HOO! MIL and FIL are going to the Dominican Republic (not taking us this time), and are stopping here tonight. I'm making a chicken and spinach lasagne. We'll see how well that works out. Wine fest tomorrow! La la la | | Friday, April 24th, 2009 | | 8:39 am |
Cool website...especially for teachers, but fun for everyone!
www.wordle.net Check it out! You can have your students copy and paste their poems, a paragraph of their narrative papers, even reserach papers, and it creates word art from the prose!!!! LOVE it! Every month I type up cute things that Riley and Maxwwell do, and I created word art from that list. So fun and cute! :) :) :) | | Saturday, December 6th, 2008 | | 8:10 pm |

Facebook
I'm a total moron and about ten years late to the party, but I'm finally on facebook. I don't understand it. Is it a journal? Is it just to find friends? Keep in touch with old ones? Anyway....I'm on there. Be my friend! What do I do? | | Monday, August 4th, 2008 | | 1:26 pm |
Anyone near Myrtle Beach?
I was just offered a mystery shop at a resort in Myrtle Beach. Airfare is not included, so I can't do it, but thought I'd post it for somebody else. Vacation shops have really long forms, but they can be worth it. https://tns.clientsmart.com | | Sunday, July 13th, 2008 | | 7:47 pm |
We're back from Colorado. My computer seems to be infected with a virus, so I may not be around until it gets fixed. Trip in brief: When flying with two kids, timing is EVERYTHING. I will never, never, NEVER fly at 10:00 p.m. with kids in tow. NEVER. Ever. Never. Riley screamed for a good twenty minutes while in flight, and people were PISSED. I was mortified. The flight attendant brought us wine after Riley fell asleep. Missed our flight TO Denver. Will never, never, NEVER fly United again. Wouldn't let us check luggage because we were not there 90 minutes before our flight. Right on the ticket (and the airline's monitor) it says 45 minutes. Screw you, United, and your $50 a bag policy too. Actual hippie wedding was kind of nice. Riley slept, so it was a success. Moutains were BEAUTIFUL. White-water rafting with Maxwell, a blast. The caves--very pretty. Adventure Park (with two kids, one who is a baby)--an adventure. Sleeping? Terrible. Time change was not kind to us. All in all, we had a very good time. | | Friday, June 27th, 2008 | | 10:45 pm |
Despite celebrating Scott's 40th last week with a weekend of golf, his friends, a surprise party and lots of drinking, he called me today after work, and after I'd been counting down the minutes until he was going to get home. Scott: How have the kids been? Me: TERRIBLE! Oh my GOD! Riley fought sleep all day and Maxwell has been purposely being obnoxious to her so she's been SCREECHING. Come home so I can go to Spinning. (whispering) I may kill them. Scott: Oh. People from work want to take me out for my birthday. Me: (Sigh) Well, I guess you only turn 40 once, although you kind of turned 40 last weekend with your birthday extravaganza. Scott: Well, it IS my birth MONTH. Maxwell (chiming in with irrelevent --but important-- subject matter): We only touch our own penises! Not other people's! Scott: That's right, buddy. Me: So...for a few drinks? You'll be home then around 8:00 or so to put Maxwell to bed? Scott: Well, Frank is coming here especially for me, so, I'm thinking it will be more of a late night. Me: UGH! Then tomorrow will be a wash too, because you'll sleep all day. Scott: Why don't you carve out some time for yourself this weekend? Maybe get a manicure? Me: (I haven't had a manicure since my wedding, which Scott apparently doesn't know) O.k. because a 25 minute manicure is equal to ten hours of partying with your friends and sleeping until noon the next day. Whatever. Go. Are you sure you're turning 40 and not 12? I have retaliated by putting black beans in the taco soup. Usually, I leave them out because Scott hates them. I'll show him. | | Sunday, June 15th, 2008 | | 12:27 pm |
We went to Prairiefest last night. I do love a good summer festival. The kids had a blast. There was a petting zoo of exotic animals, camel rides, kiddie (and big kid) rides, food and "Survivor" played. Nothing like a cheesy 80s band to kick off summer! We stayed until 10:00, which was way past both kids bedtime. Riley fell asleep, and Maxwell snuggled on my lap. It was a perfect night. I got a coveted spa mystery shop yesterday morning. I haven't seen them in about a year, so I'm glad they're back. I got $130 worth of highlights and a blow out and style. I wish the cut would have been included, but it wasn't. Can't complain about free highlights though. The only thing was....my stylist and the receptionist had this conversation while I was getting my color done. Stylist #1: How did your night go last night? Stylist #2: I was BAD!!! I totally made out with baby daddy last night. Stylist #1: You DIDN'T! Stupid, stupid, stupid you! Stylist #2: I know! But it was soooo good. People have criticized me for mystery shopping before because they think it's like tattling. I always look at it as catching people doing something right, improving customer service, etc. But this makes me uncomfortable, because I definitely don't want to narc this girl off, but I can see how others would be offended. The question on the survey is "Were all employees engaging in professional conduct including conversation" so this is the kind of thing companies want to know. Awkward. Here is a picture of my highlights. I told Scott to go play golf for Father's Day, which he is doing all day. | | Friday, June 13th, 2008 | | 5:39 pm |
My cell phone fell into the toilet and now it doesn't work. Ugh. What should I expect from AT&T? Will I have to purchase another phone? I just bought one two months ago because my last one died of old age. | | Monday, June 2nd, 2008 | | 5:05 pm |
Bleeding Mole
I noticed a mole on the underside of my arm. It is really small, but I can't really tell if it's symmetrical or has irregular borders. I'm going to get it checked out, but I want to stay away from google, since I get all anxious about things like this. I scratched it, and it bled. Do moles generally bleed? THis isn't good, is it? | | Thursday, May 8th, 2008 | | 9:59 am |
Petty, bratty vent ahead
BIL and future SIL are having their wedding in Denver on July 4th. We're searching for flights and I'm just getting all pissed off at this stupid thing. Flights are outrageously expensive and the cheaper ones have terrible leaving times and have stupid things like 28 minute layovers. We got the invitation yesterday ("We're registered at Target" right on the invitation), and found out that the thing starts at 7:00 p.m. which is great for a lovely evening wedding, if you don't have kids. But we do, as do most of the people coming, and I know those of you with kids know how inconvenient this is going to be. BIL and future SIL also have a toddler who is going to the wedding, so I'm not sure what they plan to do with him during the festivities. MIL is paying for the whole thing and BIL and future SIL aren't letting her invite any of her friends. Scott and I had a big fight about it last night. He doesn't think that catching a flight at 6:30 a.m. is a big deal (getting the kids out of bed at 3:30 a.m. makes for a great day, you know) and doesn't think that the TWENTY EIGHT MINUTE layover in Madison will be a problem. Because flights are ALWAYS on time, and it just takes SECONDS to lug both kids to a different terminal. I pointed out to him that the last time we traveled it took at least twenty eight minutes for the flight attendants to locate our stroller. Stupid wedding. Stupid BIL. I wish he would have stuck to his original plan of having the wedding on the Friday of my last day of school so I would be forced to stay back here. BLAH. | | Sunday, March 23rd, 2008 | | 5:42 pm |

Has anyone heard from Jenn (LovesPinkRoses?) She was induced early yesterday, and was supposed to email me so I could post news of the baby, but I haven't heard anything. | | Monday, September 24th, 2007 | | 9:01 pm |
Blow dry boot camp was great! My hair is super thick, and I can never blow it out right. The class started with an anti-frizz treatment and hair wash and then the stylist showed me step by step how to get it 80% dry and then blowdry it so it would be smooth. They used Redken products, but didn't push any on me. My friend is a stylist so I get all of that stuff for free. I have a ton sitting under the sink in the bathroom and had no idea what to do with any of it. I usually give it away to my students as giveaways! Here's a (bad) picture. No make-up and lack of sleep...and we all know about the grown out highlights already, but I did it all by myself! :) Completely unrelated to Blow-Dry bootcamp.....our first non-hospital family picture! | | Thursday, September 13th, 2007 | | 4:54 pm |
Help! When did your new baby get their social security card and number? We applied for Riley's SS card right when she was born, and it still hasn't gotten here. She needs a passport for a trip to the Dominican Republic in December that our in laws are taking us on, and I need her SS to get one. Her SS card still hasn't come, so I called the SS office and they said it could take 14 weeks to get here. I know that passports are taking a ridiculous amount of time too, so waiting 14 weeks for the SS card isn't really an option.
What are my options? What can I do?
:(
I really want to go to the Dominican Republic!!! | | Thursday, September 6th, 2007 | | 6:03 pm |
Hearing test? Sorry for the multiple journal posts today. Riley failed her hearing screen in her right ear at the hospital. The nurse said not to worry, that many newborns fail the hearing test and that she probably had gunk in her ear from delivery. She told us that we needed to repeat it, however to be sure. I forgot about it, since Riley seems to hear fine from that ear (startles, turns her head when I talk to her, etc.) but I got a letter from the Dept. of Public Health that was a bit scary today. I'll definitely take her in to get retested, but wanted to know if anyone else had a baby who flunked their hearing test at the hospital.

I want to join a new mom's group since the last one kicked me out because I didn't go to enough events because I worked. It seems like an AP (attachment parenting) one fit me the best (the pro-breastfeeding and sling using appealed to me) so I applied to join through meetup.com. I got an email back, asking if I nursed Maxwell. The member said that there were many 2 year olds in the group, and they all nursed. I said that I was very supportive of extended breastfeeding, but Maxwell no longer nurses. I asked if that was a problem. She emailed me back to ask when he weaned himself. Well....Maxwell never weaned himself. I weaned him at 14 months. I think that's still pretty good considering I worked full time and we were going to TTC and I knew I needed Clomid. Still, I probably would have weaned him anyway. I had lots of outside pressure. I also don't do other AP practices like cosleeping. So...is this not the group for me? I know that part of AP is child led weaning, which I didn't do for various reasons. Should I persue this group, or should I look elsewhere? |
